When we tendered for the Melbourne Knowledge Week Hub we saw it as an opportunity and challenge to showcase an entire event which is guided by circular design principles. The festival were on board with the proposition from the start and from that moment every decision about the design of the space was carefully considered to design out waste and keep objects in use. These images show hemp curtains which were fabricated for the festival by Weft Textiles but which will go back to them to be made into bedding and can be composted at the end of its life. The circular frames have been restored and reworked from various brand activations. They are modular and all flat pack for storage and transport so are able to be used over again in different forms. The plinths and other furniture in the circular pods has all had many lives prior to being shown in this way for MKW. We work to save activation builds from landfill by designing modular and reconfigurable pieces and refurbishing as required. Photography by Albert Comper
