Ballarat City Council engaged Moth to showcase Ballarat’s thriving creative scene via a one-month long pop up shop in Melbourne CBD. The store created a conduit to the backyards, workshops and studios of Ballarat’s makers and artisans and provided a curated space for them to collectively sell their wares. Moth drew inspiration from the Made of Ballarat brand and from the maker’s spaces in Ballarat. Ephemeral items, off-cuts, working tools and shoe lasts were all layered into the store fit-out to create an immersive experience of textures and materials like steel, timber, linen, leather, clay and cork. The eclectic space also hosted a Meet the Makers series of master classes, demonstrations and tastings of Ballarat Gin, beer, wine, honey and cured meats. The central pendant light was a collaboration with the light shades being custom made by ceramicist Kim Haughie. Photography by Albert Comper
